All Shaw Nylon Area Rugs Are Recyclable

Dalton, GA - Shaw has been working for years on innovative ways of reducing waste, improving manufacturing processes and preserving our natural resources - before environmental awareness became a trend. Thanks to advances in sustainability technology and Shaw's Evergreen Nylon Recycling facility in Augusta, Ga., all nylon area rugs from Shaw Living are now recyclable. In addition, area rugs made of Anso nylon will contain recycled content. Part of the Shaw Green Edge, an umbrella term that encompasses the company's positive social, economic and environmental initiatives, all Shaw products made of Type 6 nylon are recyclable at the company's Evergreen Nylon Recycling Facility. In July 2007, Shaw introduced the first recyclable rugs to the industry with the Premiere and Natural Expression collections.

"Shaw is excited and proud to announce that all of our nylon area rugs are recyclable, which means half of all Shaw area rugs are now recyclable. These beautiful nylon area rugs allow the consumer to make an easy eco-friendly choice for her home, without sacrificing style, color or convenience," said Kimberly Barta, Shaw Living's brand manager. "Additionally, the consumer doesn't have to pay more for the recyclable area rugs. It's a simple, feel good selection for the consumer."

The nylon area rugs are recycled in a closed-loop process based on the philosophy of cradle-to-cradle recycling. Cradle to cradle is the process of taking a product after its useful life, breaking it down into its raw building blocks and rebuilding the same product over and over again - without the loss of performance or aesthetic qualities. Shaw recycles in this cradle-to-cradle or Carpet to Carpetâ„¢ model at the Evergreen Nylon Recycling Facility by breaking down Type 6 nylon area rugs into its original material called caprolactam and rebuilding it into virgin-like nylon.

Once a consumer would like to recycle his or her nylon Shaw area rug, a product identification label on the area rug directs him or her to Shawfloors.com/recycle to locate the nearest carpet collection site.  This label also explains Shaw's environmental story.

Aside from environmental benefits, the recyclable area rugs are stylish and beautiful. Machine woven, tufted and printed nylon area rugs are included in the recyclable offerings. Recyclable nylon rugs are available in Shaw's designer collections including Kathy Ireland First Lady, Kathy Ireland Young Attitudes, Tommy Bahama, Jack Nicklaus, mary-kateandahsley, Antiquities, Renaissance, Modernworks and more.
