Shaw's Eco-Friendly Epic Hardwoods Featured in House Beautiful Kitchen of the Year

Dalton, Ga. - July 31, 2008 - The kitchen is the heart of every American home, and House Beautiful magazine created the ultimate one this summer with its premiere "Kitchen of the Year" at New York's Rockefeller Center from July 15-17 featuring Shaw's Epic Legends hardwood in Gold Rush Walnut. Using top design talents and cutting-edge appliances and components, the "Kitchen of the Year" demonstrated beautiful design and innovative ways - both big and small - to make kitchens more personal, comfortable and technologically advanced. The space, presented by House Beautiful and hosted by Tishman Speyer, was a showcase of kitchen styles, products and entertaining, including heirloom quality cabinetry from award-winning designer Christopher Peacock and beautiful eco-friendly hand-scraped hardwoods by Shaw.

Enclosed in a glass conservatory on Rockefeller Plaza, the "Kitchen of the Year" was an opportunity to experience the ideal designer kitchen in person. Each month in the magazine, House Beautiful features a "Kitchen of the Month," which is consistently one of the most-loved pieces. The "Kitchen of the Year" at Rockefeller Center was an extension of House Beautiful's expertise in kitchens, and brought the pages of the magazine to life with 1,000 square-feet of state-of-the-art culinary design and an additional 500 square-feet of outdoor entertaining space.

The Kitchen was designed with "green" in mind. All of the major components of the space - cabinetry, appliances, floors, decking and furniture - were environmentally forward-thinking. For example, Shaw's Epic Legends hardwood flooring contains up to 67 percent recycled content. Further, the appliances, outdoor furniture and building materials, including Shaw floors, from the "Kitchen of the Year" will be donated to Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk's ReStore program, where valuable construction and home improvement producs are offered to the public at greatly reduced prices. Proceeds support the building of homes for those in need.

In addition to Shaw hardwood flooring, the "Kitchen of the Year" featured other innovative components including custom cabinetry designed by Christopher Peacock, appliances by Jenn-Air, CaesarStone countertops, Delta faucets, Kohler sinks, and HP TouchSmart computer, Wedgwood china, Evergrain decking, Laneventure outdoor teak furniture, kitchen accessories from Williams Sonoma, and lighting by Urban Archaeology. New food product launches included a Tassimo hot beverage system and Bertolli pasta sauces.

"House Beautiful takes great pride in presenting 'Kitchen of the Year' at Rockefeller Plaza," said Stephen Drucker, Editor-in-Chief, House Beautiful. "We hope the kitchen gave visitors inspiration so that they walked away with a wealth of ideas as to how they can create memorable kitchens in their own homes with both stylish and eco-friendly products."

The Kitchen was showcased on The Today Show July 16. Additionally, The Kitchen will be featured in the October issue of House Beautiful. For more information, please visit www.housebeautiful.com.
