If you haven’t shopped for laminate lately, get ready to be surprised.
HGTV® HOME laminates are extraordinarily realistic and come in a wide array of species, colors, finishes, and widths. Some even have an exotic look that’s highly in demand—and of course, with laminate, there’s no rainforest destruction to be concerned about. Some of the woods replicated by laminate are so rare they can’t be found in abundance in nature … others are so exotic they can’t be harvested for environmental reasons. For these looks, laminate is the only choice. Your floor would be not only stunning but unique.
Species: Laminate comes in almost as many species as hardwood, and each one has its own grain pattern. For an informal feeling, look for graining with high energy and heavy motion. Fine graining, on the other hand, creates a more traditional atmosphere.
Colors: Laminate colors span the spectrum, just as they do for hardwood. And the same “color psychology” applies: Darker colors tend to evoke coziness and drama, while lighter colors are airy and modern.
Surfaces and Finishes: Again, laminate’s choices echo those of hardwood. High-gloss finishes are very high-end and contemporary. Surfaces with the hand-scraped or distressed look are mellow and relaxed in feeling.
Widths: Wider planks are an extremely popular look, one that’s beautiful in larger rooms. But thinner, 3"-wide planks are laminate’s hottest growing trend…they look unbelievably like hardwood.
