This house has been featured in more than 70 movies, ads and TV shows. It’s perhaps best known for appearing in the opening montage of Full House.

It features modern upgrades including new hardwood, tile and carpet from Shaw Floors as well as state-of-the-art appliances.

When asked to partner with Côme and Charlene on this historic home, we knew it was a one-of-a-kind opportunity. Shaw Floors’ color and design stylists worked directly with the homeowners on each product selection. Collectively, they achieved the perfect balance of maintaining the character of the home while adding a modern look and feel.

Q & A With Homeowners

When making plans to renovate your beautiful home, what made you think of Shaw Floors?

We have used Shaw Floors products in our previous homes and have been very satisfied with the quality and selection. We also appreciate that Shaw Floors has such a wide breadth of product line across several key areas – carpeting, hardwood flooring and tile – which we needed throughout our Painted Lady house. We also liked that Shaw Floors is a long-established American company, and we were looking for product for this iconic San Francisco home from American brands as much as possible. Using the Shaw Floors website to select these products was also a key consideration.

What kind of advantages/benefits did you experience with custom bound carpet that allowed you to customize each area rug and fit?

The rooms in the house were not easy to work with. For example, there are 12’ high ceilings in the parlor and family room, with odd-shaped rooms and tight spaces, requiring more custom sizing of the area rugs. The master bedroom has 11’ high ceilings and two alcove/bay window areas, limiting options to place furniture and area rugs. Being able to custom-size area rugs made for a much nicer end product perfectly matched to the room sizes and shapes. In the master bedroom, we had three sections made (one on each side to step off the bed and one at the foot of the bed) so that we could still see the Shaw Floors hardwood, but have the softness of area rugs to step onto from the bed. The area rugs were very well made, stitched along the edges and with a soft backing. We had so many styles and colors to choose from.

Can you explain how much durability was a factor when making your selections for the home? Or rather, how did you go about making selections that fit your family’s lifestyle?

Durability was a key factor for us. The house is used constantly for events and gatherings given its historical significance and draw. We needed hardwood flooring that could stand up to this constant use, similar to what had been installed in the house 122 years ago. We believe the Shaw Floors maple hardwood we used will last for decades. As for carpet, we are also quite heavy users, particularly in our attic loft media room where our teenage kids gather with their friends every weekend, and so we needed durability. We know from our previous homes where we used Shaw Floors carpet that they are exceptionally durable.
