CARPET INSTALLATION

How to prep like a pro

Make installation day a breeze
The wow factor new carpet provides is one of the easiest ways to update your home. In fact, your flooring retailer and carpet installation team arrange most of the details, from having your flooring measured to estimating the amount of carpet you’ll need to scheduling your installation day. They’ll often even move your furniture. But there are a few things you can do to prepare that will make the carpet installation process as seamless as your beautiful new carpet.

What to do prior to carpet installation:

  • Move breakable belongings, like lamps and vases, to a safe place before the installers arrive.
  • Unplug electronics, such as computers and stereos, including speaker wiring.
  • Clear shelves and desktops to make it easier for the carpet installers to move your furniture.
  • Vacuum your old carpet either the night before or the morning of your installation to minimize the dust and particles during the removal process.
  • Ask your retailer about heavy items, like pianos or pool tables. Your carpet installers may not be able to move these items or may charge an additional fee.
  • Make prior arrangements to move gas, water or direct-wired appliances, including water heaters. These typically will not be disconnected or reconnected by your carpet installers.
  • Remove bedding and stow until your carpet installation has been completed to avoid getting it dusty or dirty.
  • Check to be sure your installer removes old carpet, which is often the case, but may also include a fee.

What you should be aware of during and after your carpet installation:

  • Damaged subfloors could delay your installation.
  • Doors may need trimming to swing freely over your new carpet, and it is typically your responsibility to have them cut and rehung.
  • Moldings that need to be removed and reinstalled may break, and it will be up to you to replace them.

Most important…
Enjoy your new carpeting. If you have more questions or need additional help with your installation, we’re happy to help. Check out our Additional Carpet Installation Resources or contact us.
