2 weeks ago Went in to the store, young man who helped was great. They had transposed our phone number & have been leaving messages elsewhere. Tony called yesterday to explain the confusion & he's already been out here & measured. I'm hopeful things will go better going forward.

last month Of course I love this company as it is my family's and I am slowing taking it over. My name is Tony and I would like to apologize to the unhappy people who have left us bad reviews. If you would like to contact me I will see what I can do to make things rite. We are constantly trying to do our best and make customers happy and do a great job on there flooring. I understand it is upsetting when things don't go well on a job. The overwhelming majority of the time when this happens the customer ends up very satisfied. For those who are not give me a chance to make it rite. Thanks.

6 months ago This is based on my experience from 2 years ago. All I can say is get a written quote from Gary because he tries to throw extra charges at you last minute. The poor guy who installed carpet did great but was all by himself and it took 3 days. Also, we went at 2 PM on a weekday to look at samples and the place was closed because he was out doing an errand. Um, ok.

10 months ago We had them replace the carpet throughout and flooring in the bathrooms at my moms house. Gary, at The Carpet Guy, was quite dishonest and unprofessional! They had to remove the toilets in the bathrooms to replace the flooring and broke the piping to the toilet in one of the bathrooms causing it to leak all over the new flooring. The realtor noticed that it was wet because Gary had just left it leaking and did not consider it would ruin the new flooring (that we just paid a lot of money for). I called Gary about it and he tried to say that it was old and that's why it broke and it was not his responsibility. He refused to fix it initially. I pressed the issue stating that it would ruin the flooring we just paid to have put in (and it was not cheap!) He said that he knew a plumber that could fix it but we would be responsible for the plumber charge and he would just add it onto the bill. He was very rude about it as well! We paid the bill in full including the charge for the plumber to fix the leak. The inspector came in as required to sell the house and found that it was still not fixed! THEY HAD JUST TURNED OFF THE WATER TO THE TOILET AND LIED SAYING IT WAS FIXED! (we did not know this because I had to move my mom in with me out of state because of her disability). When I called Gary about it, he said he would have to check the bill to see if we were charged for the plumber. I sent him a copy of the bill immediately via text showing the charge but he has refused to call me back or provide a refund! Furthermore, he took it upon himself to install flooring that was not approved prior by us. I would not recommend this company to anyone!

10 months ago If you read the other reviews, you’ll see that The Carpet Guy is great... as long as you don’t have any problems. That was certainly our experience. Everything started out great: the sales guys were friendly, the owner, Gary, was friendly, the installation went fine, everything seemed to be good. The problem started when I questioned the square yardage we were quoted and billed for. It’s a very long story, but to sum up: Gary made a mistake on how much carpet we needed and we were overcharged. I do believe it was an honest mistake, but he handled the confrontation poorly. I had to be very persistent over multiple days in trying to engage Gary to help me figure out what was going on; and the more I brought it up, the less helpful he became. During our final phone conversation he got fed up, cut me off, wouldn’t answer my questions, accused me of nitpicking, and then hung up on me. I called back immediately to ask why he’d hung up on me, and he wouldn’t answer the phone. A few minutes later he continued the conversation through text, which I considered extremely unprofessional. Since there was no one else I could work with (I called the office and asked), the issue was eventually resolved through text, though not to my complete satisfaction because my questions remained unanswered and Gary's behavior left me very hurt and upset. So, great company to work with if there aren’t any problems, but very unprofessional and extremely rude if there are. Gary got annoyed at me for asking questions and not implicitly trusting him, but if I had done that, we would have lost out on a large sum of money and paid for carpet we didn’t need and didn’t receive.

10 months ago Carpet was overpriced for quality. Install was ok. Large seam shows in center of family room. Didn’t want to wait to move furniture back in for days so had to live with it. After 7 months carpet in hall rippled and needs to be stretched. I have called 4 times to have it fixed. In the last 5 months I have received one call about coming to fix it that afternoon. I was out of town for work so they said they would call back another day. Guess I’ll have to pay another company to come fix what should have been warrantied.

last year This Company is a complete fraud. We hired them to install some vinyl flooring and carpet in our parents home. They ordered the wrong color carpet, and despite our protests not to have it installed, they convinced them to install with the promise that they would make it right. Further to that issue, they overcharged us for product and demanded we return the excess. DO NOT work with this company. We ended up with the wrong product, we paid too much for, and at the end of the day, they will not put anything in writing and will flat lie everything. Gary Penrose is a crook and took advantage of my elderly parents. If legal costs were not so high, we would be taking him to court.

last year 10 years ago my husband had a stroke and I needed our home changed for wheelchair accessibility. They came and took all the carpet up and put in Pergo flooring all in 2 days. This floor is still perfect. Yesterday I called to get carpet in the basement. I received a call Within hours and a estimate. This is the only company I will use for all my flooring needs. They are very professional.

last year Worst company I have ever used!!! Run, don't walk away!!! Unprofessional, uncaring , sloppy, untrained employees, overpriced, and overall horrible!!! I should have read their reviews first! The owner, Gary, came by after they kept messing up, and was extremely rude, and uncaring. No apologies, just kept blaming his workers. He does not care about the customer at all, just making a buck. He made the installer redo the entire floor (after they messed up and put padding under the laminate so the floor was denting) for free. We heard he quit. They damaged the cold water inlet valve on our washer so it was leaking, so we got a ton of mold. We had to pay for mold removal. To put more flooring after mold removal, they wanted to charge an additional $1400, and have us sign a waiver. We used a competitor to complete the job, because we didn't want them back in our house!! The competitor finished the job, did excellent work, and was $400 cheaper!! Wish I could give them negative stars...

last year Fair prices, but... we have had issues with our laminated flooring and despite several phone calls will not come back to fix their poor installation. (The carpet looks nice, but the installation crew did not clean up after themselves - we had to vacuum the whole house).

last year Worst experience ever! Be super careful when buying carpet from these guys! They are very unethical shady! Our experience started out great! After talking about making payments with the owner son I got a phone call from the owner stating he never authorized that! I began to tell him that his son was the one who set it up with us and he began to yell at me over the phone telling me that that never happened. He authorized the full amount to go through my checking account without asking! I will never go back to them!!!

last year Gary is great to work with. It was a great experience from start to finish. He carpeted our whole basement and it still looks great 6 years later. Gary even sent one of his employees over to restretch our carpet upstairs for free that wasn't even purchased or installed by the carpet guy.

last year We had these guys replace all of the carpet in our house, but the quality of their labor is very poor. Within 1 year it started to get wrinkles in it in several places. When we called the owner, he was very rude and refused to send someone out to re-stretch it. It wouldn't have taken an hour, but NOPE! We called several times & finally gave up.

3 years ago They installed vinyl flooring in a bathroom without an underlayment so the floor is one inch lower than the hall carpet. It created a tripping hazard at the top of the stairs. I called the owner, Gary Penrose, and asked him to correct it. All he wanted to do was argue. The owner called me an "Ass" and hung up. I checked the pad under the carpet they installed. We ordered the best padding but got the cheap stuff. Gary's original bid was $650 but he raised the price to $1,150 and got it from my wife.

3 years ago Absolutely the worst customer service ever! They promise to call you back but never do you have to constantly be chasing them down and then the work never gets done cause nobody ever shows up when they're supposed to they don't even have the courtesy to let the customers with appointments know they're going to be 7 hrs late or that they're just not gonna show up I can't believe this place is even in business!

3 years ago Best decision I made in 2016. First of all I took the time to get 3 other quotes, and when I spoke to Gary about getting a quote he noted they would be the best price. He was right, I did not even show him the other quotes and his came in at the lowest. It was a great experience, I now have a kitchen with laminate flooring and the rest of the rooms with carpet and it looks amazing! Installation was on time - and so far I do not see any quality issues. Very pleased. If you are considering flooring of any kind at least take the opportunity to get a quote.

3 years ago BEWARE- I had carpet ordered and they were nice enough to hold it for me for a month while completing other work. Carpet installed but no paperwork as to warranty on work, carpet, pad... so called to say I would pay when invoice received. Was accused of being a bad person for not paying without getting paperwork/warranty first- knowing that no warranty would be upheld if I paid first. Apparently the customer is not right with this business and I still have not received any invoice-despite paying one month ago. Very disappointing. The reason given was owner on a cruise-returned 12/5-still no invoice/warranty, despite additional follow up call two weeks ago.

3 years ago I was worried about going with them because of the bad reviews about installing carpet on time. We had a very easy time setting up the carpet delivery and installation, we even had to change the date twice and both times they treated it like it wasn't a big deal. They have a great selection of carpet, and they don't pull you into buying the expensive carpet, in fact when we were looking at a more expensive carpet they found a cheaper alternative without us even asking.

4 years ago Worst communication and follow up. Late for warranty appointment, didnt follow up (said installers would call to fix issue) and has not returned call or text in over a week. August is when flooring installed, issue given to Manager Mid April and Nothing done or communicated as of May 13th. Took business to RC Willey for second home, Carpet Guy lost 5k in business just for not honoring warranty. Beware!! #smallclaims #flakey

4 years ago Due to a naughty dog, I had to call them to have him return the carpet where it meets the tile. Then, a few months later, the dog was home by himself and probably scared because of the stupid 3 months of fireworks we have here and chewed a section of carpet on the landing down to the tack strip. So they came out and decided to take the carpet out of the master closet and put THAT on the landing. Then they put in brand new carpet in the closet! It looks fantastic and they are very affordable! I would recommend them again and again!

4 years ago I changed my review from 1 star to 3. It still took 4 weeks for them to install carpet on my stairs because they kept canceling the appointments. The reason for 3 stars is because it is a good price and the carpet looks nice. If they had done it when promised it would have been 5 stars.

4 years ago I changed my review from 1 star to 3. It still took these guys 4 weeks to install carpet in my stairs. I am giving it a 3 because the carpet was a good price and looks good. If they had installed it when they said they would, instead of pushing it out almost every day for four weeks, I would have given them 5 stars.

5 years ago We recently used the carpet guy to replace some carpet in our bedrooms, replace flooring in two bathrooms, and repair carpet in our basement. We dealt with Tony (the store manager) in the store. The price was reasonable, it was easy to schedule, and they did a great job. We did have a minor issue where the installer wasn't planning to include the stairs. We called Tony, and he had the additional carpet out to the installer that day, and our installer stayed late to finish everything up. Tony came back the next day and did our repair job, which turned out to be quite difficult due to the age of the carpet. He spent way more time than he had estimated, but I appreciated his desire to get everything just right. We walked away from our experience satisfied. I would use them again.

5 years ago I just called their main telephone number (the 417-5600 #), and the kid who answered the phone was incredibly rude to me. Before I could even ask him my first question, he cut me off mid sentence and hung up on me! I've never experienced such deplorable customer service, and I wouldn't recommend these people to ANYONE based on merely that alone. I'm not even typically concerned with the quality of a business's customer service, but the Carpet Guy's is SO horrible, that it merits a comment and review.

6 years ago We had the unfortunate experience of dealing with Gary Penrose (the carpet guy) when he as referred to us for a kitchen remodel by our contractor. Gary was nice enough initially and even though his prices seemed a little high he had a tile that we really liked so we decided to go through with the installation. The first problem arose when two days before our installation date Gary called to confirm our appointment for the following week!? Seeing as we had gone over the details many times and had discussed the installation and documented it ad-nauseam this was no mistake. It also happened to be pioneer day which being new to the area we knew nothing about and quickly figured that Gary either didnt want to or couldnt get someone to work that day. Considering this scheduling "mistake" screwed up our whole remodel in terms of cabinet, appliance, and countertop installations which were all booked and lined up this was a big deal. The kicker was when Gary tried to pin it on us like it was our mistake instead of it being him who was trying to weasel out of date because he didn't want to work a "holiday". The actual installation was just as poor as his scheduling abilities as the workers did a poor job with the tile install. All of them were uneven and instead of making it right they blamed it on the house settling...The house was built in the 50's and considering we had a new sub floor put in that is a poor excuse. Even worse when you consider the existing tiles were perfectly even. When we left several voice mails with Gary asking for him to come check out he installation as we had questions of whether it was up to the quality that he would expect from his installers we received no response. Several emails were also not returned. Gary is a fraud and will take your money and run without any concerns of the job being done right or if you are happy with the end result.

6 years ago Worst customer service ever. They've been paid in full for two weeks and have not come to install our carpet. Every time we call for an update we get a voicemail. They never call us back. When we do get a hold of them, they always have some excuse for why they can't come. Ive never been more disappointed. And I can't even comment on the quality of the product because its not here..... if it weren't for my forgiving spouse I would demand a refund and never use their services again.

8 years ago HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE & FOLLOW-UP!! We did business directly with the owner Gary Penrose, who we met the first time we entered his store. He was very helpful in the store and eager to do business. We felt good about the bid he gave us and proceeded to purchase flooring with installation. That's when things changed... the installation was delayed, the appropriate measures were not taken to prep our floor for tile, installation guys used existing materials which were supposed to be replaced and we were not given a credit, carpet installation took much longer than necessary or what was promised, COMMUNICATION WAS POOR, we called several times to schedule, we spoke to Gary directly about problems after installation (cracked grout) that took 6 WEEKS to resolve!! The entire process became a hassle. I WOULD NOT RECCOMMEND THE CARPET GUY!!

9 years ago Untrustworthy Business! I did business with a guy named Dan at their location on 6210 South 3200 West. They misrepresented measurements so when I went to install it would not work for my home. When I called Dan and explained the measurements are wrong he said "what do you want me to do about it". When I asked to do a return and get my money back he said no way and hung up on me. We are trying to contact the owner to settle this but have had no luck. They falsely advertised and now I am stuck with something I can't use.
