last month Just came in to shop around and see what their options on strand bamboo were. I came in, and asked the gentleman at the desk if he had any bamboo products. He responded in a stand-off-ish manner that 'no', he did not had any in stock. I meant generally, to order. He showed me what they had... very limited options. They only had engineered and not any solid options and very limited color options, I asked about some prices-- they had a piece of paper that indicated the prices. I wanted to take a picture, to remember the prices and keep shopping around and compare. Mainly because I am trying to support small local businesses rather than big store shops. And I need to keep track of the prices I encounter. Well... the gentleman did not allowed me to take a picture of prices, telling me that it could end up in 'wrong hands' and that he didn't want the prices out there. Not sure 'where' they could have ended that it's so much of concern-- but I guess I look sketchy(?). After that he mention, "I guess we won't be able to help you today". Ok. Just from the shopping around I've done for bamboo, I'll tell you their prices ARE DOUBLE of what I've found around at other small local family owned shops- FOR THE EXACT SAME PRODUCT/BRAND. The service wasn't at all the nicest, and while I didn't purchase any product I will tell you this much: I will not be coming back and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Honestly... not sure if it is because I'm a (young looking) woman, or Latina... but my experience in less than 10 min was very negative and honestly offensive.

3 months ago I needed new hardwood flooring for my home and Jim Miller totally mis-messerged my home and had to come out twice but also told me it was an "awkward" floor plan. On top of that, one hardwood floor he originally quoted at less than $5.00 per square foot, he then quoted at more than $9.00 per square foot in the final estimate. These guys totally wasted my time.
3 months ago Business Owner Dear Cris, Thank you for your comments and am sorry to hear about your recent experience with Carpeteria. But I would like to point out that the flooring that was quoted was for 2 different products - you wanted to get an additional quote for a less expense floor (original quote was $9.00 per Square Feet) which we ended quoting at $5.00 per Square Feet. In reference to the measurement - we provided the correct square footage in our initial quote and the re-measurement did not change the footage quoted. We take our customers feedback seriously and use it as a way to improve our service. Thank you for your patronage. Alec at Carpeteria

6 months ago Jim Miller helped me with my recent laminate purchase. He made time to come to my house to do the measurement on a Sunday morning to accommodate my schedule. He was fair with his pricing and got the products to me ahead of schedule. Even weeks after I completed the job, he graciously helped me exchange some extra materials for a piece of stair nose that I wanted to get as a spare in case replacement was needed in the future. My sister used Carpeteria a few months before for a condo renovation had a similar experience with Jim, whom she found very helpful. He stayed past closing time to help her complete her order. Thanks Jim!

9 months ago I needed a rug pad to go under a new area rug for my bedroom. I called Carpeteria, and asked if they had any in stock before driving all over town. After a few minutes on hold, I was told that yes, they had it in stock, but it was on a high shelf, and that the guy that worked there was leaving soon, and the young lady that would be there couldn't get it down. Needless to say, I went elsewhere.

10 months ago Changing carpet after many years is always a little stressful especially with all the color selections, fabrics and manufacturers. After walking into Carpeteria and meeting with Cappi, I felt less nervous and even got a little excited. Cappi was very personable, knowledgeable and was not pushy at all. She even suggested going home and sleeping on it, which I did. I came back the next day and we started the paperwork. Cappi was very supportive through all phases of the installation and handled many scheduling changes due to my crazy schedule. The installers were right on time and knew what they were doing. They were very careful with my furniture and put everything back where it belonged. Cappi even asked me to send her a picture of the carpet after it was installed. I am very pleased and will definitely use Carpeteria again. Thank you Cappi for a wonderful experience. You went above and beyond and I so appreciate you.

12 months ago Carpeteria in San Leandro is "the" destination for carpeting and hard-surface flooring. Great value for the money and a comprehensive selection. I'm very happy with what I got and how I was treated. The staff is professional, well organized, and responsive. If you'd like design ideas and coordination for material selection ask for Cappi. She knew what I wanted with just a few questions. But if you like to get technical and know about the material itself or how the installation is done, Tony was able to put my mind at ease. Noel in the back-office was excellent in coordinating payment and scheduling. You're in good hands over there. Not to forget, the installation crew is top notch: very respectful, attentive to detail, and you can tell they know what they are doing. You can see it in their work afterwards. They made my house a home I'm happy to be in.

last year I went there to Carpeteria in San Leandro and was helped by a salesman named Jim Miller. I found a Tuflex carpet that I really liked but it was out of my budget. I discussed with Jim my budget and the fact that I had signed an agreement for a carpet install with their competitor. Jim showed me other carpet but I left the showroom thinking either I had to increase my budget or go with my current install. The next day was Mother's Day and I called Jim to tell him that I really liked that carpet and could there be any deal that can be worked. Jim said he would call me back. He called me back to say he had approval from the assistant manager for the carpet I wanted installed in my home. A wonderful lady was in the showroom to write up the deal and take my deposit. I was pass ecstatic because I had the carpet I wanted for my home. Everything was going fine. Jim came on Friday, May 13th to take the measurements and confirmed that the install will occur on 5/27. Well, here's where everything goes downhill. That Monday, I received a call from Jim saying his manager, Gary Simpson, did not approve the carpet deal. In fact, Gary wanted to see my order from the other company if there was any chance of him honoring this deal. I got the information and yes stupidly sent Gary the information. Gary called me around 20 minutes later to say he couldn't do this deal, he wouldn't make any money and it wasn't going to happen. I was passed devastated and confused and felt totally victimized as the consumer, shouldn't as a part of "good customer service" Carpeteria at least try to retain my business, and why is this manager being so abrupt and rude. So, it seemed the only option I had was to request a refund which Gary was very happy to approve. Now, I've owned a home in Fremont for 16 years and dealt with a number of small to large businesses attempting to have repairs and upgrades done on my home, but I have never encountered a company that flat out did not want your money. Gary Simpson at Carpeteria is the top manager there. I found him condescending, rude, and lacked any customer service skills. Jim Miller who's there top salesman still work there even though he's the one that strung me along for 2 weeks that there were no issues. In looking thru the Yelp comments and some consumers having the same issues with this particular Carpeteria I've come to the conclusion that they are crooks and the owner of Carpeteria doesn't care about these crooks he employs because he allows them to keep demeaning his customers. I will be sending this to the Diamond Certified, Angie's List, 7 on your Side to expose these people once and for all. Maybe the owner, Sam Gulesserian will finally clean house! I'm upset YELP forced me to give these individuals 1 star because I wouldn't have gave them none.
last year Business Owner Dear Juanada D., Read your post and am sorry that you feel this way. BUT Carpeteria has a "Best Price Guarantee" which clearly stipulates that we will beat our competitors bid/quote providing the customer provides written documentation and we are comparing identical product and services. What was provided to Carpeteria as a Bid/Quote from the other flooring retailer merely stated "Carpet" with no Style or Color information, no details on areas to be carpeted nor services that were to be provided. Carpeting has a very broad range in price and we simply cannot sell premium carpets at base grade prices. Based on the information provided to us, we had to decline the sale. Thank you again. last year As soon as we walked into the San Leandro Store we were greeted by Tony Balian and after discussing our needs with Tony, I knew we had come to the right place. Tony listened, gave expert advice and answered our many questions. The quote, installation, time-frame, and clean-up were spot on. We love our new floors - thank you Tony and staff! We will definitely be back!

last year We had Carpeteria tear out 1974 parquet flooring and install new laminate in our dining room and hallway. Thanks to Tony Balian's leadership the crew did a SUPER job for us and kept the mess at a minimum. They also took out living room carpet and installed a beautiful new "Smart Strand" carpet. Tony listened to every concern we had and responded with expert advise. The beauty of our new floors is a testament to his knowledge, careful selection and instruction of the work crew, and dedication to customer service. THANK YOU TONY for a job very well done!

last year I was very impressed when I first walked in so many selections, and not the Walmart special stuff either. These guys have patterns you can't even imagine. With reasonable prices. We spoke with Jim Miller who was more than helpful in explaining both style and quality. This is by far the best place we looked at and we asked a lot of questions and they were all answered. The choice is yours do you want to drive around in circles for 50 miles looking for carpet that no one sells anymore, talking to shoe fly sales people or come here. You'll be glad you did!

last year I worked with Jim for a vinyl floor install and his service and attention were top notch as He was helpful and knowledgeable regarding answering all my questions. He even came over for an estimate on a sunday and I received my estimate without any delay. The installers,Bernie and Ruby, worked fast and professionally to get the job done right. I give these guys an A+ and would not hesitate using their services again, Thanks Carpeteria!

last year Skip this place. Perhaps I should start off by saying that Tony is the hardwood floor guy here. He seems knowledgeable, experienced, and all around good.... So he comes over and measures, writes up an estimate and it seems to be good to go. We lay out a time line of a week and boom, hardwood floors in the new house. I place the deposit and leave, looking forward to a new floor in a week. Perfect. What I got instead was the workers mess. Dust everywhere, globs and GLOBS of stain on my baseboards and paint, scratched doors, dirty doorknobs, and effed up GASHED baseboards. Now, I'm not typically one to gripe about such things but 1)being freshly painted and 2) expecting a clean job, I now had to repaint almost all the doors, dust and mop for the worker, and throw his trash away. OH YEAH, he left spikes and wood and pieces of rubbish in my garbage, a pan of paint thinner and a pan of stain in my garage.... I immediately called Carpeteria and got someone to come out, we both documented the damage, but before I knew it Carpeteria has quickly charged my credit card with not only the rest of the due amount before I could negotiate damages, but never required a signature. I'm sure the credit card company would love to dispute that :/. To be honest, I would have been happy to discuss the terms a little after and pay full price, however, a company charging immediately after complaint so as to complicate issues deserves to not have business. YEAH, so a "manager" came over and put the thinner outside instead of in the garage, and he took pictures, but at no time was there even a slight apology to the sloppy work done by whoever they contracted for the job. There was also no confirmation of of final price (the overcharged me also $50), and still I had to refinish and repaint all my doors to cover up for the sloppy, unskilled work done. If I could do it all over again I would have shopped around a little more... Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else for your floors. Yes the work was satisfactory on the floor, but the service and follow through wasn't there, and the follow up and charging after was shady... Skip this place

3 years ago Worked with Jim on the Sale. Jim came to the house, measured and brought samples so we could see the wood in the light here. It was perfect so we signed the contract that day. We had a couple of months of renovations to do before the installation and Jim was very helpful in helping us plan. Once we were ready to install we began to work with Gary who was great in giving us guidance and advice. The install team were pros, they worked with us and did an EXCELLENT job. I recommend fully without reservation.

3 years ago My husband and I came in to pick out new laminate flooring for one of our bedrooms. Walked around with choice in hand for a good 20 minutes without any acknowledgment of our presence. There were a bunch of people in the back shooting the breeze and the only man working with another customer wasn't even willing to let us know someone would be with us shortly....not even a hello. We had a lot of questions about pricing and we were even interested in possibly choosing bamboo flooring. We chose to look at carpeteria because they've been around for a while. This is the type of treatment we'd expect from lowes or homedepot. Looks like we'll be shopping elsewhere.

4 years ago The sales guy was terrific. The installers were terrible. I had laminate put in which requires cutting and sanding. Nothing! was done to protect my home. After I saw dust flying around me, I realized they didn't put up any plastic sheeting to protect rooms not being done. Nor did they put anything over my furniture. When I asked, they said it was already dirty so why bother, they would vacuum. I told them that they must put the sheeting up and drape the furniture. I'm glad I did because they didn't finish in the estimated time of 1 day and had to come back. Guess what, 2nd day, they did not put back up the draping. Again when I asked, it was a why bother we're almost done. They had a whole other room to finish so I told them put it back up. They also ignore all my requests to not put their equipment on certain pieces of furniture, I even put signs on them to make sure they didn't forget. This was not the experience I had anticipated after having a great interaction with the sales guy and reading reviews on yelp. --update. We presented all of these facts to Carpeteria and negotiated a 5% discount off the final bill. This closes the matter to our satisfaction. We very much appreciated the sales person, Jim, and know he does his best for his clients.

4 years ago We used Carpeteria 5 years ago to carpet the downstairs and decided to give them a try at carpeting the upstairs this time. Tony came down and was very efficient in his measurements and advice, and he brought a good variety of carpet samples. Although the price wasn't rock bottom, Tony did work with us to get the price down a little bit and he gave us a free upgrade on the pad. When the workers came, they were very skilled, worked well together and split up duties to get the entire job (tiling the entry and carpeting the remainder of the floor) done in one day. They were careful, clean and did very good work. We're just as happy with Carpeteria today as we were 5 years ago. Tony did not "hard sell" us and gave us exactly what we wanted. He was knowledgeable about all the products, and he also stopped by during the installation to make sure all was going well. I highly recommend Tony and Carpeteria. Excellent experience!!

4 years ago Went in to get carpet for 2 bedrooms, hall and stairs, and we were going to finish the hardwood floors in the other rooms. We were not given a hard sell. We were left to roam through the store and discuss carpet. We were told up front, about promotions that were going on, what carpet was in stock or could be gotten in stock from LA quickly. We found one we liked, gave the salesman the "basic" dimensions, and he gave us a quote. Advised us to take the carpet sample home to see if it will work in the rooms. After pulling up the existing carpet, we knew we could not finish the floors- so we went back to the store, and advised that we needed to carpet the house- but needed the estimate to stay about the same. Lee (our incredible sales guy) walked with us through the store, and advised "rough estimates" on pricing of the carpets we were looking at. We found one in stock, and it was a done deal- Lee suggested that he come to our house the next day, to get actual measurements. He arrived on time, and got right to work measuring. He gave us our quote, we signed off, and he told us of our financing options etc. He also advised that he would schedule installation that next Weds. I received a call on Tuesday from the install dispatch, advising the guys would be on site between 9am - 1pm. At 927am, they arrived. It seemed like 100 guys, but was really only about 6. They moved fast, they were professional. The came, and they left just a few hours later, carpet installed, vaccuumed, and done. We had such great service, that Carpeteria will be getting our business doing our kitchen and bathroom. HIGHLY recommend this vendor.

5 years ago I went to Carpeteria looking for new floor and ended up working with Lee. He spent a great deal of time with me as I searched for something that could withstand another flood, if needed. Finally, after A LOT of thought, I settled on Drop and Done flooring, and with Lee's recommendation, which was accurate, I was able to install this floor myself (with the help of a loved one :) All in all he was great... With just one glitch. He had quoted me a price on the floor (actually twice, I had confirmed it with him) and then when he went to charge my credit card, he quoted me a higher price and was quite surprised when I reminded him of the price he initially gave me. He agreed to honor this price although seemed somewhat baffled why had had given me such a good deal (it had been some time as I hemmed and hawed about selecting this particular flooring). It left a sour taste in my mouth, but it's mellowing with time. If you can, get your quote in writing as it seems like what comes out of your wallet is based on the deal they're willing to give you. Overall, after TONS of research, I love this floor and I think this place has great products and the sales people are knowledgeable. Lee is enthusiastic about what he sells and knows his products inside out.

5 years ago BEWARE OF CARPETERIA at this location!!! The salesman came out to my house and measured twice, called me gave me a quote (was told that he and the manager came up with the 3 quotes) and after signing the contract and waiting a week for them to order the carpet and set up and install date...I was told that i have to pay an additional $2000.00 because the salesman made a mistake. The General Manager was "VERY" unreasonable since i had nothing to do with them making the "SO CALLED" mistake on the measurement. I would not recommend this business to anyone!

6 years ago The sales guy who helped us was awesome - Lee. He bent over backwards to accommodate us and make the sale happen - so five stars to him. The product wasn't everything we hoped it would be. Or maybe it was the installation, I'm not sure. The product had a slight pattern to it, and when it was laid, the guys didn't align it exactly so I notice it every time I walk into my living room. I called them to have them fix it, and they said it was normal. I also mentioned that the seams were extremely noticeable and was told that they would lay flat with time. It's been almost 6 months and the seams are still incredibly noticeable. Not sure how long I have to wait. 2 stars to the product.
