How to Remove   on Carpet

Method 1 - Solvent and Detergent Method

What You’ll Need:


  1. Solvent- liquid, non-oily, non-caustic type sold for spot removal from garments. Use products for grease, oil and tar removal. Such as Carbona and Afta. Important: Do not apply directly to the carpet to prevent damage to the backing.
  2. 1/4 teaspoon clear/transparent dish-washing detergent. Such as Dawn, Joy, or clear Ivory.
  3. 1 cup warm, not hot, water for solution
  4. Additional warm, not hot, water for rinsing
  5. Clean dry white cloths or white paper towels
  6. Small bowl for mixing
  7. Smooth bottomed baking dish large enough for area
  8. Heavy object, like jug of water or gallon of paint

STEP 1

Apply solvent to dry towel / cloth


STEP 2

Blot working from the outside in– do not rub or scrub. Scrubbing could damage the carpet fibers.


STEP 3

Repeat the first and second steps until there is no longer transfer


STEP 4

Mix detergent and warm water in small bowl.


STEP 5

Blot working from the outside in– do not rub or scrub. Scrubbing could damage the carpet fibers.


STEP 6

Using a fresh cloth, apply clean water to rinse, insuring that you remove all detergent residue.


STEP 7

Apply a thick stack of paper towels to the area to absorb the water. On top of the paper towels place a smooth bottomed glass baking dish weighted down with a gallon of paint, jug of water, or other heavy object.


STEP 8

This wicking process may take several hours. Fresh paper towels may be added to the bottom of the stack to speed drying.


STEP 9

If solvent remains, repeat mixed detergent steps.


Method 2 - Freezing Method

What you'll need:


  1. Ice cubes
  2. Dull butter knife or credit card
  3. Solvent- liquid, non oily caustic type sold for spot removal from garments. Use products for grease, oil and tar removal such as Carbona and Afta. 
  4. Clear dishwashing detergent
  5. 1/4 teapsoon of detergent
  6. 1 cup warm, not hot, water
  7. Clean white dry cloths or paper towels

STEP 1

Scrape or blot excess spill.


STEP 2

Freeze with ice cubes 


STEP 3

Shatter with a butter knife or other blunt object


STEP 4

Remove chips from carpet


STEP 5

If color remains, follow with solvent.


STEP 6

Apply solvent to dry towel/cloth.


STEP 7

Blot, don't rub or scrub.


STEP 8

Repeat steps 1 and 2 until there is no longer transfer


STEP 9

Apply detergent solution to carpet using a damp cloth


STEP 10

Blot, do not rub or scrub


STEP 11

Using a fresh cloth, apply clean water to rinse, insuring that you remove all detergent residue


STEP 12

Apply a thick stack of paper towels to the area and weight them with a heavy object such as a jug of water or glass baking dish and leave for several hours


STEP 13

If any stain remains after the wicking process, repeat steps 9-12


Method 3 - Chewing Gum Method

What You’ll Need:


  1. Ice cubes
  2. Butter knife for spoon
  3. Solvent- liquid, non-oily, non-caustic type sold for spot removal from garments. Use products for grease, oil and tar removal. Such as Carbona and Afta. Important: Do not apply directly to the carpet to prevent damage to the backing.
  4. 1/4 teaspoon clear/transparent dish-washing detergent. Such as Dawn, Joy, or clear Ivory.
  5. 1 cup warm, not hot, water for solution
  6. Additional warm, not hot, water for rinsing
  7. Clean dry white cloths or white paper towels
  8. Small bowl for mixing
  9. Smooth bottomed baking dish large enough for area
  10. Heavy object, like jug of water or gallon of paint

Freeze gum with ice cube.


STEP 2

Shatter frozen gum with a butter knife or spoon.


STEP 3

Remove frozen gum chips from carpet.


STEP 4

If color remains, apply solvent to dry towel or cloth.


STEP 5

Blot working from the outside in– do not rub or scrub. Scrubbing could damage the carpet fibers.


STEP 6

Repeat the first and second steps until there is no longer transfer


STEP 7

Blot working from the outside in– do not rub or scrub. Scrubbing could damage the carpet fibers.


STEP 8

Using a fresh cloth, apply clean water to rinse, insuring that you remove all detergent residue.


STEP 9

Apply a thick stack of paper towels to the area to absorb the water. On top of the paper towels place a smooth bottomed glass baking dish weighted down with a gallon of paint, jug of water, or other heavy object.


STEP 10

This wicking process may take several hours. Fresh paper towels may be added to the bottom of the stack to speed drying.


STEP 11

If solvent remains, repeat mixed detergent steps.


STEP 12
