How to Keep Luxury Vinyl Clean

Follow a Simple Maintenance Plan

Remove dirt and grit by sweeping or dust mopping, wipe up spills as quickly as possible and avoid exposure to direct sunlight for extended periods of time.

Spot and Spill Removal

Use Shaw cleaner for most common spills and residue. Use rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) with a clean white cloth for spots requiring a solvent type cleaner that water and cleaning agents cannot remove.

What to Avoid?

Avoid using abrasive cleaners, ammonia-based products, vinegar-based products and harsh chemicals, as they can damage the luxury vinyl's surface. Always refer to your care guide for a complete list of products to use and avoid.

    • Spot Cleaning: Use our Spill Calculator to search for specific spills. Immediately blot spills with a clean, white, absorbent cloth or paper towel. Use a Shaw recommended neutral ph cleaner.

    • Floor Protectors: Use felt floor protectors and wide-load bearing leg bases/rollers to minimize the chance of indentations and scratches in your luxury vinyl flooring from heavy objects. As a rule, the heavier the object, the wider the floor protector.

    • Cleaning: It's recommended to clean your luxury vinyl floors weekly to prevent dirt buildup. High-traffic areas may require more frequent cleaning. 

    • Walk off Mats: Should be used at all entrances to absorb soil and moisture. Clean the mats periodically to reduce debris transfer and be sure to use mats without latex or rubber backings to reduce possible discoloration.

    • Wet Cleaning: Periodic wet cleaning will be necessary to help maintain the floor's appearance. Be sure to vacuum or dust prior to wet cleaning and be sure to use a neutral-ph cleaner to prevent damage to your flooring.


    • RinsingIf rinsing becomes necessary after wet cleaning, be sure to expedite drying time with an air mover or a fan.
